Beth Mohler Stinnett


Biography - A VJJA member since interning with the Lexington Court Service Unit nearly 14 years ago, prior to being elected President, Beth served as state secretary and webmaster for the past four years.  She has also been instrumental in planning state conferences and events such as VJJA Day at the General Assembly.  Before becoming a state officer, while working in the Shenandoah Valley, she served as secretary of VJJA’s Valley District.  Beth works at the central headquarters for the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice as the Division of Community Programs’ Program Development Specialist.  Among her responsibilities is serving as the Assistant State Coordinator for her agency's Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) and supervising five Local JDAI Coordinators.  As part of her involvement with JDAI, Beth has served as a delegate to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s inter-site meetings in San Francisco and Las Vegas.  She has presented workshops on JDAI and other juvenile justice topics at local, state and national venues.  Earlier this year, Beth served as a panelist at the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s national conference, “Building on Success: Providing Today's Youth With Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow”, held in Washington, D.C.  She was also a speaker at the National Partnership’s “11th Joint Conference on Juvenile Services: Building Partnerships to Prioritize Goals and Maximize Resources” and often serves as a guest speaker for classes at Virginia Commonwealth University.  Prior to assuming her current position, she worked for the VADJJ in various other capacities to include: Program Monitor, Senior Management Analyst and Senior Probation Officer.  She has also worked in the areas of adult corrections, domestic violence and alternative education.  A former field worker who often misses having direct contact with juveniles, Beth volunteers as a Lunch Buddy at an inner city elementary school.  She holds a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Management and has completed post-graduate work towards a Certified Public Manager (CPM) designation. She and her husband Dave, and their chocolate Labrador, Yaz, make their home in Glen Allen.
