BLUE RIDGE DISTRICT CHAIR
Susan Farmer

Biography - From an early age Susan knew she wanted to work with children. She was employed at the Virginia Baptist Children's Home for 15 years as a houseparent and supervisor where she developed an independent living program and levels system. During her days off she enjoyed a career as a professional comedian, performing at clubs in New York, Canada and other east coast venues. After leaving the VBCH, Susan became the Residence Coordinator for the YWCA Roanoke Valley where she maintained a shelter that aided women and children and eventually assumed the role of Executive Director. When a position as a probation officer became available, Susan saw it as an opportunity to build on her experiences working with children in need and woman leaving prison. She also saw a chance to bridge a gap and provide opportunities for court-involved youth to become responsible and productive. Susan and her partner of 14 years, Rich, and a rescued kitty named Callaway make their home in Salem.
