VJJA’s 31st Fall Institute

The Virginia Juvenile Justice Association (VJJA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the 31st FALL JUVENILE JUSTICE INSTITUTE, “When All the Stars Align: Partnering for Better Outcomes for Court-Involved Children”, slated for November 7-9, 2007, in Roanoke, VA. For years, the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association’s Fall Institute has been Virginia’s premier juvenile justice professional development event. The 31st Fall Institute promises to follow that tradition and is an event not to be missed.

Participants will hear from nationally recognized speakers in the areas of strength based approaches, adolescent development, cross-system collaboration and more.  Plenary and workshop speakers include: Darlene Burcham, Roanoke City Manager; Barry Green, VADJJ Agency Director; Dr. Wally Kisthardt, Park, MO; The Honorable Judge Steve Teske, Clayton County GA J&DR Court; Dr. Randy Otto, University of South Florida; Christine Feller, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; John Tuell, Child Welfare League of America; Robin Walker and Katayoon Majd, National Juvenile Defender Center; the Honorable Judge Philip Trompeter, 23rd J&DR Court; and Chuck Kehoe, G4S Youth Services.  Full agenda and registration materials can be found at: www.VJJA.org. This year’s event is expected to attract hundreds of professionals to include judges, defense attorneys, prosecutors, juvenile justice administrators, probation officers, detention home staff, correctional officers, school resource officers, advocates, counselors, mentors, CSA Coordinators, educators & more. DJJ training credit, CLEs and CEUs expected and/or pending. The Wyndham Roanoke Airport, 2801 Hershberger Rd NW, Roanoke, 24017, (540) 563-9300, will be the site of the event.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit with more than 50 exhibitors. Expected exhibitors include: state and local government agencies; non-profits organizations; youth-serving organizations; institutions of higher learning; community-based treatment providers; group homes; treatment centers; curriculum developers; training companies and more. In addition to formal learning opportunities, participants will be afforded multiple opportunities for relationship-building with other professionals working with court-involved children from across the state. VJJA President Beth Stinnett will host the annual President’s Reception, the Blue Ridge & Southwest Districts will host our 4th Leadership Mixer, and attendees can cut a rug at the annual dance social.
